Fully Balanced BOG Compression for All Major Dual Fuel Propulsion Systems Onboard LNG Carriers and FLNG Offshore Applications


Dual fuel propulsion system with low pressure fuel gas supply (DFDE)
The application of conventional reciprocating, labyrinth compressor technology results in a non-complex, highly reliable fuel gas supply system with wide ranging controllability (0-100%) and very simple operation. Combined with various reliquefaction systems, the BOG can either be used as fuel or liquefied and returned to the storage tanks.

MAN Diesel & Turbo ME-GI dual fuel propulsion system with high pressure fuel gas supply (DFDM) for LNG carriers
The Laby®-GI with a fuel gas delivery pressure of more than 300 bar, is designed for MAN Diesel & Turbo's ME-GI dual fuel propulsion system (DFDM). Based on proven technology, the Laby®-GI Compressor provides fuel gas supply to a propulsion system with highest efficiency at lowest operating cost. All options for combining with full or part reliquefaction are available here as well.

Offshore applications FSRU and LNG FPSO
The fully balanced design, resulting in the elimination of unbalanced moments and forces enables this new type of compressor to be perfectly applied to other applications where the deck structure has strict limitation regarding machinery induced vibration, and where a small machinery footprint is desired. Such offshore applications, where high availability is a prerequisite, include FSRU, LNG FPSO, etc.

Special applications
Customized Laby®-GI based compressor solutions are available to cover many other highly demanding compression duties such as high pressures above 350 bar, lubricated and non-lubricated services, compression of difficult or hazardous gas mixtures.


Ease of operation and maintenance
Due to the non-complex compressor system, the operation and maintenance can be easily carried out by normal qualified crew and maintenance personal. Thus, maintenance and operating costs are minimized.

Design features

  • No vibration due to elimination of unbalanced forces and moments caused by rotating masses
  • Labyrinth sealing system (contact-free and non-lubricated) on piston and piston rod gland in the cryogenic area resulting in increased lifetime, reduced wear and lowest maintenance costs
  • Quick start-up with suction temperatures down to minus 170°C (minus 250F)
  • No pre-heating of the gas or pre-cooling of the compressor required
