Have you always wanted to attend one of the training courses that Burckhardt Compression offers its customers but could never find enough participants within your own company? Now is your chance.
Burckhardt Compression now offers a new training model open to anyone who wants to learn more about Process Gas Compressors. This means you can attend a professional training course under the guidance of our experts even if a minimum number of participants cannot be found within your own company.
You will broaden your knowledge about basic compressor theory and get plenty of hands-on experience during the 3-day course, offered from June 18 to 20, 2019. Combining theoretical and practical training inputs working on Process Gas Compressors ensures an ideal balance. No prior compressor knowledge is required.
What are the course objectives?
Burckhardt Compression takes a holistic approach to training and development. Besides extensive instruction on compressor theory, plenty of time is scheduled for practical, hands-on exercises. Working with the compressor models installed at our Training Center, participants learn how to safely operate and maintain compressors. The course has been designed to convey participants the required knowledge, skills and confidence to perform the relevant tasks safely and efficiently.
The following topics will be covered during the course:
- Hazards associated with reciprocating compressors
- Compressor theory
- Machine layout
- Component identification and function
- Bearings (design, operation, failure modes)
- Ring design (manufacture, operation)
- Rod Sealing (gas packing, intermediate packing, oil wipers)
- Valve design and function
- Unloaders and capacity control
- Frame lubrication system and ancillaries
- Cylinder lubrication (pump to point, divider block)
Starting/stopping, normal running, emergency procedures
- Maintenance procedures practice:
– Valves: Removal, inspection, replacement
– Bearings: Fitting, measurement of bearing components, clearance measurement methods
- Fault-finding and troubleshooting
- Compression systems, causes of failure
- Report writing
- Tour of production and test facility.

Who is the course for?
This training course is for anyone who performs maintenance and service work on Process Gas Compressors. Prior compressor knowledge is not required.
How many people are in a training group?
The number of participants in a group is limited to 12 to ensure efficient knowledge transfer.
Enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis.
When and where will it take place?
The “Open Training Session” will take place from June 18–20, 2019 in Winterthur, Switzerland.
This is from Tuesday to Thursday, so you can arrive on Monday and depart on Friday, which saves you from having to travel on the weekend.
8.30 a.m. – 4.00 p.m.
How much does the training course cost?

Snacks, refreshments and lunch will be included for all three days, along with training equipment and materials. Other costs such as travel and accommodation expenses must be paid by the participants themselves. Safety shoes, eye protection, overalls, etc. are available on site or you can bring your own personal protective equipment with you.
