In an oil and gas production field typically a variety of wells produce oil and gas. For central processing of that gas, the gas from the individual wells is gathered at a single gas gathering station for transport to the next gas processing plant. Besides the targeted hydrocarbons the gas arriving at the gas gathering station includes a variety of contaminants, such as particles, water, mercury, sour gases (e.g. H₂S/CO₂) that challenges the designers for gas gathering compressor solutions.
