Burckhardt Compression expands its offering in biogas through the acquisition of Fornovo Gas in Italy

Burckhardt Compression has signed an agreement to acquire Fornovo Gas, one of the European leaders in gas compression solutions for biogas and compressed natural gas applications. Founded in 1969 in Italy, Fornovo Gas focuses on mid-sized reciprocating compressors and has developed a strong market position in Europe. It employs approximately 120 people and generates double-digit MCHF sales with profitability in line with Burckhardt Compression’s.

The acquisition strengthens Burckhardt Compression's position in the growing biogas and compressed natural gas (CNG) markets. Fornovo Gas brings strong technical expertise, a complementary product line to Burckhardt's and long-standing customer relationships.

This acquisition complements our current offering and expands our coverage in biogas applications in Europe. It also provides a global platform to grow our mid-size configurable compressor business.

Combining Fornovo Gas’ capabilities with Burckhardt Compression’s global presence will strengthen our position in applications supporting global energy security and the energy transition.

The completion of the acquisition is expected in the coming two months. More details about the acquisition will be shared during Burckhardt Compression's Annual Media and Analyst Conference on June 4th, 2026.
